RhPAP Funding for Rural Alberta Health Professionals

Alberta’s Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) provides funding to support continuing medical education (CME) and professional development for rural health professionals in Alberta. This funding is intended to enhance healthcare services in rural communities and offset some of the costs associated with professional development.

Eligible applicants include physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals practicing in rural Alberta communities with populations under 15,000, outside the Census Metropolitan Areas of Edmonton and Calgary. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.

RhPAP offers several funding streams, such as:

  • Physician Skills Enrichment Grant: Supports individual rural physicians to pursue CME training.
  • Rural Education Fund: Provides funding for rural healthcare teams to organize educational events in their communities.
  • Rural Education and Advanced Learning (REAL) Program: Provides funding for individual rural health professionals, including nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and nurses, to enhance their education and skills.
